Baird Optometrists

Baird Optometrists is a 100% family run independent opticians. In fact, our three optometrists are all related. Husband and wife owners, Andrew and Fiona Baird opened in Callander in 2011 and Dunblane in 2020. In 2023, Fiona’s cousin Claire Bone (née Beattie) joined the practice team.

As an independent opticians, we have free reign on the products we offer and the services we provide. With our focus set on looking after the health of your eyes, we’ve ensured that our patients can access the latest examination technologies, the best in spectacle lenses and the most recent spectacle frame designs.

We were awarded Social Media Presence of the Year 2024 at the XEYEX Eyecare Awards. You can follow Baird Optometrists on Facebook, Instagram and other social media channels for our latest news.

Our Approach

When it comes to eyewear, we personally select the spectacle frames that we stock. Each one is chosen for its style and quality. We stock frames to suit your face and budget, including designer brands such as RayBan, Oakley and Silhouette, great quality budget ranges and everything in between.

What really sets us apart is our personal approach. We believe in taking time with you to understand your needs and find the right solutions. Our patients often comment on how much more thorough our eye examination is than other practices they have been to, and are often surprised at how much we have invested in our equipment.

We offer 3D-Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) retinal imaging which scans the retina and produces a three-dimensional model of the back of the eye on our computer. These highly detailed images can help us to detect early signs of glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease amongst other eye conditions. With early detection, often treatment outcomes are more positive.

Our Team

Andrew grew up in Mold, North Wales. After gaining a degree in Optometry at Cardiff University in 1999 and passing professional qualifications in 2000, Andrew would go on to meet his now wife, Fiona and move to Scotland.

Having experienced independent and multiple practice, Andrew was keen to have his own business and opened Andrew Baird Optometrist in 2011 in Callander.

Andrew has been a keen guitarist since the age of 11 and played in a local covers band for several years. He is also a self-confessed baseball nerd and supports the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fiona is a local girl, having grown up in Dunblane and attending the local high school. Fiona studied optometry at Glasgow Caledonian University, also qualifying in 1999 and gaining professional qualifications in 2000.

After a spell working in Liverpool, Fiona moved with Andrew to Scotland. With two sons born in 2006 and 2008, Fiona balanced being a Mum and an Optometrist. In 2020, with the opening of the Dunblane practice, Fiona joined the family business.

Fiona qualified as an independent prescribing optometrist in 2022 and gained NESGAT accreditation in 2024 allowing her to manage glaucoma patients in the community, a service we hope to be providing alongside the hospital eye care services in the near future.

Fiona enjoys walking the family dog, Marty and also has a creative side. Fiona can turn her hand to anything arty and is responsible for some of our most impressive window displays.

Claire also grew up in Dunblane and went on to follow her older cousin’s footsteps, studying optometry at Glasgow Caledonian University. Claire is also a qualified independent prescribing optometrist.

Having married Chris in 2023, Claire joined the Baird Optometrists team and appears to have taken on the role of social secretary!
